Your Attention and Your Heart

Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour   -

What makes you sad? What things break your heart?
When you watch the news or read the newspaper, surf the world news on the web, what things grab not only your attention but your heart also. I find it interesting the times that the Bible records Jesus weeping. Remember He wept at the gravesite of Lazarus, yet Jesus was going to raise Lazarus from the dead?
We find Jesus weeping over the city of Jerusalem as He entered the city on Palm Sunday, just days before His own cruel death on the cross at Calvary. C.H. Spurgeon said we could never exhaust the full depth of understanding of those two words, Jesus wept! But we can quickly glean that first and foremost Jesus was ‘acquainted with grief’ as we are, and He understands the pain and suffering we face and feel in a fallen world.
In this He truly identified with us and He was pleased to do so. Jesus did not care about things or stuff. But people lost, hurting, helpless and overwhelmed, it was these people who grabbed Jesus heart…and brought tears! May we tomorrow be moved to compassion, to prayer, to intercede and yes to weep at the people Jesus would too shed tears for.
May our hearts be grabbed by lost souls and those helpless people who yet do not know the God of great comfort! May the tears that God stores in a bottle from our eyes be those shed for the widow, the orphan and the grieving!
Psalm 56:8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
