From the Pastor’s Desk – As a parent, you have a serious goal, a direction that you are to look to heading. That is to work yourself out of a job. For one day your children will leave home. A major part of your responsibility is to PREPARE your kids for that day. From learning how to brush their teeth, clean their room, to teaching them to make wise and godly decisions. The goal of each parent is to prepare them for the day you won’t be there! Their spiritual foundations are the most important building blocks you must endeavour to guide and instruct them to build. Have they learned from you what it means to walk with Christ – every day? Have you taught them to pray? Have you encouraged each of them to have a love for God’s Word and to know it and live by its truths? Have you encouraged them to give their lives to Jesus Christ? Today I find myself often disheartened by a complete lack of responsibility some parents have in regard to their children’s eternal destiny. It’s not just about heaven and hell. God desires our children to know His love, to live a life that is pleasing to Him and full of joy for them. He yearns for them to obey His teaching so that they might find the right partner, to live a married life, Lord willing, that is a taste of heaven on earth. To have them make decisions that are full of wisdom from above and not based upon selfish desires or success in the eyes of the world. To be a parent is a big job – you need God to do it well. Don’t spoil them but raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord! That’s the role of being a parent.
