God sent His angel Gabriel to Nazareth to a virgin named Mary. ‘Greetings you are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.’
She was troubled at the message – she was told that she would be with child and to call this child Jesus.” he will be great and be called the Son of Most High. The Lord will give Him the throne of his father David and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, His kingdom will never end.’ Mary queried how since she was a virgin.’ The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One shall be called the Son of God.’
Her reply was so poignant “May it be unto me as you have said”.
Like Mary we too have been chosen of God – simply because He wants us to belong to Him, to love Him and serve Him.
Let us pray that we too can be obedient to God as Mary was
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant, so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace.
