Act 6:3“Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; Act 6:4“but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” Up to this point in the early church, the Devil had failed to overcome the church either by persecution or corruption, he now tried distraction. If he could preoccupy the Apostles with social administration (which, though essential was not their calling), they would neglect their God-given responsibilities to preach and to pray, and so leave the young church without adequate defense against false doctrine. There arose a problem in the distribution of food to widows – the Greek and the Hebrews sections. The Apostles saw that the problem was deeper than one of cultural tension. The administration was threatening to occupy all their time and so inhibit them from the work that Christ had specifically entrusted to them, namely preaching and teaching, with prayer. The Apostles wisely called a church meeting and shared the problem with the disciples. It would not be right, they said, for them to neglect the ministry of the Word in order to wait on tables. It was a question of calling. Seven young men were chosen, full of wisdom and the Spirit, to whom the Apostles could delegate the care of the widows. Then they (the Apostles) would be able to give priority to preaching and prayer. The immediate problem was solved. There has never been a greater need for the preaching of God’s Word as there is today. As the world bludgeons the identity of the family and seeks to eradicate anything that has any relationship with Christ or the Bible, it is imperative that the church proclaim with vigour the Word of God – Jesus is coming soon! Starting Monday, I invite you to connect via our web page to receive a daily devotional which I will be sending out each day direct to your social media device. In addition, stay connected to CCSH via out twitter verses each day.
Helen’s Heart –
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption – that, as it is written ‘He who glorifies, let him glory in the Lord’ – 1 Cor 1:30,31. God has given us a gift too wonderful for words. Jesus, God, lives within the hearts of all who believe in Him and receive Him. Dear parents this is the most important message to convey to your family that they would know the reality that Jesus is all they need. May you pray that your children would live a life of joy over their relationship with Jesus and be filled with His love and willingly take on the commission to make Him known to this generation. TUESDAY 9:30 AM – Ladies Bible study -Galatians 1 – Walk in the Spirit.
Prayer
The Wednesday night prayer team continues to grow here at CCSH, and this is such a blessing given the time we are living. If you are sick, James 5:14 teaches us that you can call upon the elders of the church here at CCSH and they will pray over you and anoint you with oil in the name of the Lord. Wednesday evening prayer is the perfect time just for that ministry.
Thank you Lord
Tithes and Offerings we provide a grace offering container at the left rear of the chapel for your grace-giving or you can give electronically via the following information. CCSH Account number: 2490144 & BSB: 306089. Our greatest encouragement for giving is that it pleases the Lord. Let us remember that God was unsparing in His giving – Proverbs 3: 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. 10 Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.
Calvary Kids – Bible knowledge test:
1. Is Passover the same as Easter?
2. Who washed their hands when Jesus was on trial?
3. How many times was Jesus struck with the whip?
4. What public event did Jesus participate in Jerusalem the Sunday before Easter?
Parents you can use these for your family devotion
Once the service has commenced, especially the teaching of the Word of God, we ask that you remain seated so as not to be distraction to others during this most important time. Should you need to leave your seat the ushers on your return will direct you to a seat at the rear of the church – thank you.
