John 1:43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”
When Jesus invited His disciples to follow Him, He asked them plainly to follow – Him!
I spoke to a young man this week who had become disenchanted after attending a particular church. Sadly, the emphasis of this church was about all things that were deemed more important than his relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus saw this with the Pharisees of His day. They clouded out their actual walk with God so much with religious things that they eventually could not see Jesus even though He stood right in front of them!
I said to this young man that he needed to lay aside all the religious floss and give his life wholly to knowing, serving and loving Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Jesus said His sheep follow Him! When He called His disciples to Himself, He made it simple in telling us what He desired – to follow Him!
Some sadly misinterpret this and go to the other extreme. “It’s just Jesus and me!” “I don’t do church because it will ruin my walk with Him!” That is plain silly and completely against what Jesus teaches, and the Bible commands. Remember, Jesus instituted the Church; He is the Head of it!”
No, the problem is when we get our eyes off the Lord and place them on anything else before Him.
Jesus said, Mat 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Christ is to be the centre of the Church, He is the foundation of the Church, He is the Good Shepherd of the Church, and it is when we take our eyes off Him, we falter.
Your walk with God is straightforward when you place Jesus Christ in the proper position in your life. Jesus gave us a great example when He walked this earth with what and why He did what He did.
John 5:36 ….for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
Jesus only did what the Father asked Him to do. He only spoke what the Father told Him to say.
Every beginning of a new day, every decision that you make this week, ask Jesus what He would have you to do. Make Jesus the very centre of your life.
Follow Him!
