Romans 4:4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness
We discovered the wonderful word – justification – in our study through the book of Romans.
Do you remember what it means? Justification is the sovereign act of God whereby He declares righteous the believing sinner while the person is still in a sinning state. God does not suddenly make us righteous (we still sin). He DECLARES us righteous.
How righteous does God declare us? He declares us 100% righteous!
If 99.9% were considered good enough – this year alone, 12 babies would be given to the wrong parents each day; 291 pacemaker operations would be performed incorrectly; 20,000 incorrect drug prescriptions would be written; 114,500 mismatched pairs of shoes would be shipped.
God did not make us almost righteous. If that were so, passages of Scripture would have to be rewritten: Isaiah 1:18…., “Come now let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they might be light pink!”
No, Christ’s death promised and gave 100% justification!
When Jesus said hanging from the cross at Calvary the words, “It is finished,” He meant “finished.” The massive ransom for your and my sin was fully paid.
Jesus did not say….almost finished!
Let us never forget, ever, that God is into “white as snow,” not light pink!
Our sin was wonderfully and lovingly fully paid by our precious saviour and Lord – Jesus Christ!
