Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
The morning of the second day of our tour in Israel we leave the Sea of Galilee and head north to Dan. Dan lies on the border of Israel and Lebanon. It is here that tragically the tribe of Dan fell into idolatry and plunged the rest of the nation into this heinous rebellion against God.
Whilst we don’t bow down to any wooden or stone images today, idolatry is still prevalent but in a far deeper and more subtle manner. Idolatry is anything we place ahead of God, that which we give our time and energy to as well as our hearts! It’s a massive problem in todays society.
But also in this vicinity of Dan is the location of Caesarea Philippi. The spot where Jesus asked His disciple who people thought He was. But after that initial discussion, Jesus got personal and asked His disciples who they thought He was!
It was Peter, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit who said that Jesus was indeed the Christ, the Son of God.
If you were to be asked by someone today who you think Jesus is what would you say? More importantly, the way you live depicts who you really think Jesus is. That’s your real answer.
I love the way Jesus always wants us to question our own hearts. To check within ourselves what we are really thinking and believing.
If Jesus were to ask you today who do you think He is – what would be your response?
If you examine your own life the real answer to that very question will be evident!
