Daily devotion – Thursday 17th June 2021
We move on from the beautiful location of Capernaum to the Mount of Beatitudes. It was here overlooking again the Sea of Galilee that Jesus preached the glorious sermon on the Mount. From this position, you can see entirely over the Sea of Galilee, and the view is breathtaking.
But a constant disappointment for me at this site and several others is that they have built a massive Church right in the central position of the Mount. So much so, you have to jostle to get a clear view by peering through the fence or move to a lower place on the Mount so as not to have your view impaired.
However, one cannot help but imagine Jesus preaching from this location to the gathered hungry thousands spread out below.
The acoustics from Jesus position, we are told, would have carried clearly to the listening ears.
Though the traditional site of this great sermon has changed, the message that Jesus preached has not.
God still blesses the poor in spirit, comforts those who mourn, fills those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, and the pure in heart will continue to see God.
Man always makes things more complicated, and God’s Word speaks so simply. Today the question remains, do you know God’s grace, mercy and His forgiveness personally. The message of the cross is simple – Jesus suffered and died and rose again the third day – for your sins and mine.
It’s the beautiful simple Gospel. It’s the same Gospel that Jesus preached from a mountain top overlooking Galilee.
This will never change!
