Pastor Keith   -

Waking up and looking out over the beautiful blue Dead Sea, my mind always drifts back to the Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Looking across to what was called Moab, the believed location of these two cities lay not too far on the opposite shores from our motel on the Israeli side of the Dead Sea.

Last Sunday night I spoke about the downfall of Lot and the tragic consequences of his love of the world and its crippling effect on his walk with God.

You will remember that such was the wickedness of the people in these cities that its evil reached unto Heaven.

Gen 19:13 “For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.”

Recent discoveries in the presumed sites of these wicked cities have unearthed gas, tar, brimstone and salt in massive amount in the soils in that location. Brimstone, whilst being a rock, can actually be lit and burn, and as it burns it emits a poisonous gas.

Sadly, our world is rushing toward the same wicked lifestyles that brought destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah. Thus, Jesus’ return must come soon as we are plunging into sin with complete abandon.

Whilst Lot’s witness in Sodom was deplorable because he so assimilated into the way of life in that city, we must remember that we are to be the salt – purifying – and light- the opposite to darkness – in the time we find ourselves living today as followers of Christ.

The Book of Revelation gives us in great detail the judgments that will fall upon the world we know, and we see that these judgments from God are cataclysmic in their impact and severity.

Therefore, let us now whilst the door of grace is still open, share with those looking for hope in a hopeless world, the precious gospel of Jesus Christ.

It is sobering to know that two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, actually existed, but the judgment of God has wiped them completely off the map. Real cities and real judgment!

I call upon you to pray for our Church and our community. That God will pour out His Spirit and bring a revival to our sinful nation. For we at this moment are looking at being sister cities to Sodom and Gomorrah!
