Daily devotion – Thursday 15th July 2021
The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way – Exodus 13:21
Each evening as we are about to close the day, Helen and I pray for the day ahead and ask God to go before us, to already have our paths prepared and the enemy already dealt with by Him.
In the Book of Exodus in chapter 23, God powerfully spoke to the children of Israel that He would always have prepared the way before them as they travelled to the Promised Land – Exo 23:27 “I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
Exo 23:28 “And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.
Trials and storms we all will face but they are part of life. But by God’s precious grace we need not be depressed by them. Just as clouds can protect us from the brightness of the sun, life’s clouds can reveal the glory of God, and from their lofty altitude God speaks to us.
Maybe we are just like the children of Israel at this moment on a journey through a wilderness. It may be a wilderness of a broken relationship, a financial drought, a major disappointment or a threatening illness.
Sometimes it might even be a wilderness of doubt or sin!
But God is with you in the wilderness, and He goes before you to encourage you and to guide you.
Just as He brought the children of Israel through the wilderness – He will bring you through yours as well.
Never forget: “He is the living God, and steadfast forever.” Daniel 6:26
