From the Pastor’s Desk This week the nation of Israel celebrated the Day of Yom Kippur. Starting the morning of the 15th of September and ending the evening of the 16th of September. The name Yom Kippur is based on the biblical verse, “…but on the 10th day of the seventh month it is the day of kippurim unto you…” (Leviticus 23:26-28). The literal translation of kippurim is cleansing. Today, Yom Kippur is celebrated as a Jewish day to atone for misdeeds and become cleansed and purified from them. During Temple times, a week before Yom Kippur, the Cohen Hagadol (High Priest) went to live in his chamber in the Temple to prepare himself spiritually and physically for this holy day. On Yom Kippur he was to make atonement for all Jews in the world. This was the only time of the year he entered the Holy of Holies. During the Avodah (lit. work, the Temple service) the High Priest had to change his garments five times – each time a different set of clothing. He also immersed himself five times in the mikveh (cleansing bath), washed his hands and feet ten times, sacrificed two lambs, one bull, two goats, and two rams. He offered meal and wine libations, made three incense offerings. On this day, he had to work harder than all the priests and Levites who were on duty. But for you and I as Christians, we see the atonement for sin provided by Jesus death. Paul wrote that “when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.” Romans 5:10 Adam’s (and subsequently all man’s) choice to sin made everyone guilty before God, without hope. But then, Christ stepped in, making atonement for sin. Christ, the sinless lamb, took upon Himself the sins of many, that they might receive the atonement for sins and be reconciled to God. “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19). To accept Christ’s atonement for sin is to acknowledge one’s sin and receive His sacrifice. And not only that but to live a grace-filled life of abundance. There is no more barrier between the believer and God, for they have received Christ’s atoning power and God’s satisfaction of acceptance through that atonement and thus, reconciliation!
Grace Giving – We have a container at the left rear of the chapel for your grace-giving, or you can give electronically via the following information. CCSH Account number: 2490144 & BSB: 306089. Our greatest encouragement for giving is that it pleases the Lord. Let us worship Him as we give and remember that God was unsparing in His giving Proverbs 11: There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right,
But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
Once the service has commenced, we ask that you please limit moving or having to leave your seats- the ushers will assist you, should you need to leave your seat, to return to a one located to the rear of the sanctuary so as to not distract others – thank you for your assistance in this matter.

“[Suffering] brings out graces that cannot be seen in a time of health. It is the treading of the grapes that brings out the sweet juices of the vine; so it is affliction that draws forth submission, weanedness from the world, and complete rest in God. Use afflictions while you have them.” ― Robert Murray McCheyne, “Comfort in Sorrow”
