Daily devotion – decisions decisions!

Pastor Keith   -

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Decisions, decisions, they constantly come our way  don’t they and we often fret and struggle to make the right decision. Should we take that job, move our house, choose this school, this career, or this relationship. How do we make the right decision when we need to?

The best way to always make the wrong decision is to ignore God’s Word on matters where the Bible gives us clear teaching on the matter. The Ten Commandments for example are a great example on what we should or should not do.

But what about when matters arise that the Bible does not address in black and white?

How do we decide which way to go and what to do?

James would tell us to take the matter to the Lord in prayer. God knows what we are to do! When we take the matter to Him, we are trusting in His wisdom and love for us to reveal to us what we are to do. It is pure folly to make a decision without first giving it to the Lord for Him to direct us on the matter. He does not make mistakes. He knows what is best for us!

Secondly, we are to wait patiently on the matter and not be in a hurry or haste to decide. Time is a great friend often revealing more information, changes of circumstances and giving us greater wisdom.

Lastly, don’t have your mind already made up when you take a decision to the Lord. This only leads to frustration. If God chooses to reveal to you not to take that job, not to enter into that relationship, not to move in a certain direction, accept His will.

You can never go wrong when at the end of your prayer seeking God’s wisdom you conclude with the words  – not my will but Yours Lord!

Be a wise follower of Christ – take every decision to Him in prayer and He will lead you….to green pastures…beside still waters and He will be with you. And goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life!
