“You shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
We live in a world that just does not handle trials very well. Unlike those who lived through the great wars or the Great Depression. When trials come, many Christians act as if God has no clue about what is happening in their lives. As if He is on holiday. We ask ourselves, why am I going through this? What have I done for this to happen to me? Where are You God in all this?
But such complaining is really short-sighted and wrong. God is far higher than we are. Who are we to say He is wrong in the first place? Or to attempt to tell Him what He ought to be doing? God reminded Job, “Where were you when I laid out the foundations of the earth?” Great question! (Job 38:4).
Such complaining also reveals a lack of faith on our behalf. We are doubting God’s wisdom and His love for us.
As we read the promises of Scripture, we are reminded of Jesus words – “In the world you will have tribulation.”
But the wonderful promise of Christ is that while you will have trials and tribulations, “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
That to me tells me that in the end we make it through because Jesus Christ is on the throne!
