Daily devotion – The eyes of God

The Song of Simeon

Luk 2:30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
Luk 2:32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”

Luke introduces us to a beautiful godly old man by the name of Simeon – he had been waiting eagerly and patiently for the coming Messiah. God had spoken to Simeon and promised that he would not pass from this life until his eyes had seen the Messiah.

As Simeon was in the Temple, he sees a young couple with an 8-day old baby. Simeon knew this Child was He who he had been waiting for. Mary allows Simeon to hold Jesus in his arms. I can only imagine the tears welling up in this patient old man’s eyes as he looked into the eyes of His Messiah – a child!

It was then I believe Simeon would have taken a deep breath and said….Luke 2:29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; Luke 2:30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation”

What a joyous moment this would have been for not only Simeon but so too for Joseph and Mary.

When God became a man and entered our world it as if He opened Heaven’s doors and said come look and see Me….Your Creator!

When we arrive in Heaven shortly, we too will look on the face of our Lord – the Lamb that had been sacrificed. We will gaze into the very same eyes that Simeon looked upon just 8 days after that first Christmas!

But we will also meet Simeon – and I am sure he is still looking into those eyes that he first beheld that moment in the Temple!
