Daily devotion – our conscience
If your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice. – Proverbs 23:15
One of the ways God has revealed Himself to us is in our conscience. Our conscience has been described as the light of the soul. Even when it is dulled or darkened by sin, it can still bear witness to the reality of good and evil, and to the holiness of God!
Just what causes this warning light to come on in us when we do wrong? It is our conscience, given to us by God to steer us away from evil and toward good. Our conscience can be our gentlest teacher and friend – and sometimes our worst enemy (or so we think) when we sin.
The Bible says, “Man’s conscience is the lamp of the eternal.” – Prov 20:27.
In other words, our conscience can used by God as His lamp within us.
Persistent sin, however, can dull and even silence out conscience. But on the other hand, persistent obedience and attention to God’s Word can sharpen our conscience and make us more sensitive to moral and spiritual danger.
Is this happening in your life?
Are you paying attention to God’s guidance in your life?
