Daily devotion – Time with the Lord
“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.” – 1 Peter 3:12
Many people find it easier to want to work for God than to spend time with God. They are content with busyness instead of calmness, walking quietly in the presence of Friend.
This was the issue at the Church of Ephesus as Jesus admonishes them in His letter – Rev 2:2 “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: Rev 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
God calls us to work for Him, of course; there is no place in the Christian life for laziness or a lack of diligence. But God also calls us to Himself. He calls us to “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place.” – Mark 6:31
Jesus, we read, “having risen a long while before daylight…went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” – Mark 1:35. If the Son of God needed time alone with His Father, how much more do we?
It is not easy to shut out the world, to set aside a few minutes by yourself, and spend time in God’s Word and prayer. But it is essential if we are to grow in our relationship with God and be strengthened for the battles ahead.
Don’t delay this week to spend time alone with God every day.
Once you begin to include this in your everyday planning – you will find that it will become the part of your day that you will look forward to the most.
