Daily devotion – nuclear threat
Russian president Putin today has escalated the War in his invasion of the Ukraine by placing his nuclear weapons on readiness alert – “Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Russian nuclear weapons be prepared for increased readiness to launch, ratcheting up tensions with Europe and the United States over the conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian President told his Defence Minister and the chief of the military’s General Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in “special regime of combat duty”.

The move by Putin to escalate to possible nuclear options reveals just how close we are to World War 3 breaking out through all of Europe and then the rest of the world.
How far Putin will go we do not know but he is capable of doing the unthinkable.
As Christians, we view such news obviously with great attention and concern. However, we are to be reminded that in all of this ‘mayhem’ there is the knowledge of God’s overall role and control of all of these events.
Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
The events we are witnessing now in Ukraine and other parts of the world are the beginnings.
The NLT describes verse 8 this way – But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
The war in Ukraine is a massive labour pain and its intensity is far greater than any previous signs we have had bar the re-establishing of the state of Israel on May 14, 1948. But there are more pains to come, and the intensity will be greater again and the gap between them shortening!
We grow closer to our Lord’s return for His Church and Heaven is where our eyes are to be – ‘look up for our redemption draws nigh’ but our feet are to be busy now taking the good news of the Gospel to as many as will hear us.
Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
