Daily devotion – The why of Easter…
As a child I loved Easter. The emotion of the time and the joy of going to Church Palm Sunday, Good Friday and then Easter Sunday filled me with memories of packed services and joyous singing. The Church would be decked out with palm branches, and we were each given little crosses made out of palm leaves which I cherished fondly and kept in my Bible as long as they would last.
But they are all childhood memories that sadly skirted the true meaning of Easter. For each Easter period I would also struggle with the cruelty and lack of compassion for Jesus Christ and wondering why no way came to His aid when they falsely accused Him, arrested Him, whipped Him and then crucified Him. Why did all this happen to Him?
Years later, happily married, Helen and I gave our hearts to Christ together on a Tuesday evening in a home and it was then as the Holy Spirit took residence in our hearts, that I found out what Easter was all about. It was about Jesus, the sinless Son of God, taking my sin upon Himself and paying the penalty of my wickedness with His life – to save me!
The why of Easter was me!
Rom 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
All the years leading up to my salvation, I now realized I was not the person I thought I had been. The reality of my sinfulness was made clear by the sinlessness of Christ.
I had lived a life fooling myself that I was a good person – when the truth of the matter of I was a wicked sinner under the influence of the Devil, who had been running my entire life!
Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.
Today as you read this do you know the ‘why’ of Easter?
Are you aware that Easter was and is a matter that concerns your very being, your reason for creation, and the answer to your purpose in life.
My prayer for you is this Easter 2022, to come to know and enjoy and realize fully how special Easter and all the services involved mean to you.
Easter is your story that God gave His Son Jesus Christ to reveal how much God loves you and what He has done to reveal His love to you.
