Daily devotion – tears
We read that Jesus wept as He stood by Lazarus tomb, where Lazarus had laid dead for four days. The tears of Jesus revealing His heartache at the ravages of sin and death in a world that He had created perfect.
As Jesus rides into Jerusalem, the Day the children of Israel should have known that He was their King and Messiah, Jesus weeps again.
There are things that occur at times in our own lives where we are cut to the heart and our eyes fill with tears as we experience something that we are simply overwhelmed by emotionally.
We are indeed made in the image of God. That image is that of a Loving God. One whose heart breaks when He sees His children rebellious, broken, disobedient or suffering.
We are a wonderful creation, not like any animal or plant or other such thing.
We are made in the image of the God who is Love. That is His character, His very being the Bible tells us. 1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1Jo 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
When is God most revealed in our lives? Jesus new commandment that He gave each of us reveal how this dark lonely broken world can see God’s image once again – Jhn 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Jhn 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Do you remember the words that the mourners spoke when they watched Jesus weep as He stood at the entrance to Lazarus tomb?
Jhn 11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
This Easter, will you fulfil Christ’s command? Let us live out who we have been made in the image of – the God who is Love!
May I add one final piece in closing. Let that love first be given to Him who created you. He is so deserving of our love, for He first loved us!
