Daily devotion – Belonging….to God.
The Bible speaks a great deal about belonging. Daniel the prophet spoke about this very thing when he prayed – Daniel 9: 8 “O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him. 10 We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.
As a Christian now redeemed by Christ through His shed blood we no longer belong to this world. We, through Christ’s death and Resurrection, now belong to the world where Christ reigns supreme. Where Jesus is the centre of everything. Especially our own lives!
As Christians and followers of Christ, we now desire to sincerely follow Him and serve Him and we will therefore ‘be longing’ for a different kind of world, absent from the trappings of carnality.
What is carnality? It’s living a life where one is consumed by satisfying only fleshy desires, feeding your selfishness whilst starving your soul! It’s a state of depravity and it’s the opposite of righteousness.
When a person receives Christ as their Lord and Savior, you no longer desire to live to please just yourself. The Bible tells us we cannot invite the Holy God into our life and continue to live in sin!
Jesus said, “If you follow Me I become Lord and Master of your life…”
Mar 10:21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”
