Daily devotion – Laughter
Psalm 2:4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.
Only three times in God’s Word is laughter predicated of God – here, and in two other Psalms 37:13 and 59:8. In each case it is the laughter of derision, of contempt; and in each case it is the expression of contempt for those who in their foolish pride of heart oppose God and His love of men.
God laughs at the kings and rulers who oppose themselves to the King Whom He has appointed to bring blessedness to humanity. God laughs at thew wicked who plot against the just. He laughs at the bloodthirsty men.
This derisive laughter of God is the comfort of all those who love righteousness. It is the laughter of the might and power of righteousness; it is the laughter of the strength of love. God does not exult over the sufferings of sinning men.
But He does hold in derision all the proud boastings and violence of such who seek to prevent His will for the blessing of humanity, through the establishment of His righteousness here on earth.
God in this Psalm appeals to kings and rulers to yield themselves to His ordained authority and in in doing this find the blessedness of those who put their trust in the anointed Son Jesus Christ.
Today, put your trust in He who rules the Heavens and the earth, who soon will return to take His seat in Jerusalem where every knee and every tongue shall confess He is Lord.
He is coming soon!
