Daily devotion – a family affair
We spoke of how Zacharias and Elizabeth, both were faithful servants of God who day after day gave their lives to serving and living for God. Yet, we also read that they, that is Elizabeth was barren all those many years.
How wonderful it was that God gave them a son in their advanced years – John the Baptist.
We know his ministry, he it as who prepared the way for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ the Son of God.
But he did not live a long unnoticed life like his parents. No, he with his powerful preaching on repentance and the Kingdom of God, drew crowds to the desert to come hear him speak.
But there is something that flowed on from his mum and dad to John’s life besides being a servant of God.
John made that amazing statement, “John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John in comparing his service and life to that of Christ’s.
Yes, down via his parents’ godly upbringing passed on humility, along with faithfulness.
When I get to Heaven, I cannot wait to meet John the Baptist and his mum and dad. What a glorious occasion that will be. I will share with them that their humble, faithful lives touched people who would come after them some thousands of years later.
How you serve the Lord not only pleases God, but the way you serve the Lord as did Zacharias, Elizabeth and John, will impact people you are not even aware of.
This week, serve the Lord, go about it faithfully and humbly, and let your life shine not only to Heaven, but may its beam reach those afar off.
Maybe when you get to Heaven, there will be someone looking forward to meeting up with you too!
