Daily devotion – another Monday
2 Peter 3: 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
It’s another Monday, we have gathered together as Christ’s Church in the morning and the evening and not until Wednesday will the Church gather again.
But with every new Monday since 1977 on a Tuesday evening when Helen and I both got on our knees and received Christ as our Lord and Saviour, I have thought this could be the last week before I see Christ appearing.
This hope has never dimmed and with each new Monday, there is never a thought of ‘the same old things yet again’. No, with every new Monday after Church, I have known in my heart that we are another week, another day closer to seeing our Lord and Saviour face to face.
Peter’s words echo in our minds, “…what manner pf persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness…” Peter’s words drive me to open God’s Word, to seek God’s face, to be in His presence, even more than I have been. As the day draws closer to our face-to-face meeting.
Helen and I will be ready. We are ready again this Monday and should the Lord tarry we will be ready again next Monday. It’s amazing how your life can change when you take the reality of Christ’s soon return literally as the Bible declares – its soon.
So many people will sadly be taken by surprise when He comes– like a thief appearing.
What about you? Is Monday another yawn day of the same old things? Or is it a ticking off of another day closer to seeing Jesus face-to-face?
This is why the Bible powerfully declares the importance of being in Church, of gathering together at every opportunity – Hebrews 10: 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
