Daily devotion – growing stronger
Growing Stronger!
Jas 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
James uses a Greek word for ‘trials’ which means – to scrutinise or prove.
If you took an old car seat and wanted to reupholster it, but you were worried that the thread they would use is not strong enough. How can you prove the strength of the thread?
Only by testing it, by stretching it between two strong opposing forces. Then the strength of the thread would be revealed by the amount of strain it can resist without breaking or how long it is able to withstand the test.
Well in the same way, God reveals our faith and love by stretching us through trials and storms. In effect God says, “You can trust Me, but do you know the strength of your trust? Will it be there when you need it? Will your trust remain strong when you have no idea where and what I am doing?”
God will test your faith to discover its strengths and its flaws that you might learn where it still needs to mature.
We might say the right words, but can we back it up with our actions?
You might be in a storm, coming out of a storm or about to enter a storm…rest in the storm with the knowledge that God is with you, and He will enable you…to stand!
Often the storm is to reveal to ourselves just what our faith really looks like in the light of day. That’s why we need to continually grow and mature our faith by reading His Word, listening to the Holy Spirit’s leading and trusting Him no matter how things appear!
