Daily devotion – hours and minutes…
The length of one’s life is not the formula for a life pleasing to God. I think of Jim Elliot, born 1927 and then on the 8th January 1956, was one of five people killed during Operation Auca, an attempt to evangelize the Huaorani people of Ecuador. Just 29 years of age.
I think of John the Baptist, whose life some say was cut short by Herod at the age of 35 or 36 years. But both Jim Elliot and John the Baptist lived full lives in short years. They did all that the Lord had planned for them, and He then called them home to be with Him.
We should not weigh up a successful life by years lived but by the fulfilment of all that God has planned for us to do in His name and for His glory.
Examine your life today, where is it at? What has God called you to do for Him? So many people are driven and using all their time to attempt to live simply longer lives. If only we would put the same emphasis and drive into living dedicated lives.
I admire both Jim Elliot and John the Baptist and their blessed example and look forward to meeting them both in Heaven.
Pro 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
As I grow older in the Lord, I pray that I have grown wiser with the years. I look back at my life and see a great deal of wasted time and effort in things of foolishness. Now I fully realize the value of time and seek to have every moment of my life to be in service to my Lord.
In one year, we have 8760 hours available to each of us. No one has more or less. Jim Elliot or John the Baptist did not have any more hours in a year than anyone else. But it was what they did with their, 29 years – 254,040 hours…or 35 years – 306,600 hours!
I pray that you will reset your life watch and now allow the Lord to run the clock.
And you too will live a life well lived!
