Daily devotion – one day soon!
Jas 4:14
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Just how long will it be before Christ calls His Church home? I wonder this with each new day. Will this be the day? Each day, believers are being called home to the Lord, whilst others remain to be about His business.
Some will have lived many years and some not. Life here and now itself is as James tells us is just a vapor…a moment in eternity. But taking a step back from all of this, the hand of the Lord has everything completely in His hand. Daniel 5:23 – ….and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified….
How wonderful it is to know that there is a day coming when Christ will call us home. Whether it be before the rapture or at that mighty moment Paul said would come – 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
But until that hour, I will spend time still with my Lord, in His Word, gathered with His people His Church, and not let a moment go by whereby I do not make full use of every opportunity to gather in His name.
I want to challenge you from this moment, to seize every opportunity to be with God’s people, loving them, encouraging them, worshipping alongside them until you are called home. Make a move from just a Sunday morning, to gathering again Sunday evening, midweek praying alongside others, making your impact upon the lives of others because of God’s grace and love He has given to you.
The time is short for all of us. Don’t neglect it, place Him first at all times and see the blessing of God continually in your life, your marriage, your family and the Church of Jesus Christ.
See you Wednesday night for prayer – one night it will be the last.
