Daily devotion – what are you thinking?
Phl 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Our minds are amazing in their capacity to think. Today we face an ever alarming increase in mental health issues. So many people are troubled by their thoughts, their fears and anxieties.
There are times when my mind races and challenges even the ability to sleep.
Paul gives us here in this verse I think one of the most important passages of wisdom in the Bible that is so applicable to you and I living today.
As Christians we sometimes have a tendency to look at the darkening events of the world and see nothing but despair and storms clouds. Today, Thursday the 28th of July as I write this devotion, the sun has graced us once again and its impact on our day is quite amazing as it provides warmth and clarity of vision.
Too often we may find ourselves looking at the events as they are happening in these Last Days in a manner that I believe the Lord does not want us to be occupied with. Yes, the world is spiralling down and down. Yes, prices continue to increase and the war rages on in Ukraine.
But I need to be reminded that our Lord, as we learnt last night in Zechariah 4, is the Lord of the whole earth…!
The darker the world grows, the brighter the Gospel shines. The greater the battles we endure, the greater the victories we will win.
Around us is a fallen world on its knees without hope and comfort. But within every believer pulsates the power of the Holy Spirit ever growing. The same power Paul tells us that raised Christ from the dead. – Ephesians 1:20
So today, don’t fill your mind or your thoughts with what’s wrong, instead fill your mind and your thoughts with God’s promises and you will live above the dark pall that sits over our world through sin.
But it is a choice you must make. This morning in faith, make the choice to think only on those things that are – true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
This is a good day to live for the Lord in victory! Think about it!
