Daily devotion – He owes us nothing

Pastor Keith   -

Mat 21:9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’
Hosanna in the highest!”

The crowd shouting, “Hosanna” or “Save now”, they wanted Jesus to do their bidding straight away. They were dictating to Him what they wanted and they wanted it done now!

Overthrow the Romans – save now.
Help us economically – save now.
Be in charge of us militarily – save now.

But as the week went on, and Jesus continued fulfilling God’s plan and not the mobs, they soon turned against Jesus to shout, “crucify Him.”

I have seen people come to Church and listened to their lament of how things are just going awful in their lives. They complain that God is not doing what He should be doing in their lives and with those in their family.

Some even have walked away from Christ choosing no longer to have Him as their Lord and Saviour. No matter how much I reasoned with them it did not and would not change their actions to finish with God.

One moment people are in Church singing, “Hosanna. Bless the Lord, O my soul” but then something – or a series of things – went wrong, not the way they desired, and their songs turned to sighs.

If you are expecting Jesus Christ the Son of God, King of kings and Lord of lords to be your ‘good luck charm’, if you expect Him to help you financially, physically, socially or vocationally, you will be disappointed when things don’t go ‘your way’ though you thought they should or hoped they would.

We each need to realize that Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins, to die in our place, to pay for our debt with His life. If Jesus does anything else in this life presently, that is more than enough to merit our loyalty, our worship, our devotion.

If Jesus Christ, Creator of Heaven and earth, never does another thing for you or for me, if He never gives another blessing to us, we still owe Him our lives because of what He did for us on Calvary!
