Daily devotion – love is a choice and obeying it is a command
John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
There is no such thing as “Easy Christianity!” Many people today are fine with God’s Word until it calls them to apply it in the most personal of areas. Where surrender is required, where sacrifice is the only way and being courageous to risk your ‘feelings’ being hurt.
Thus, our culture has lost the meaning of what real love is. Consequently, husbands and wives are saying, “I don’t love you anymore, so I am leaving you.” I have heard these words far too many times from broken men and Helen from broken women. But feelings are not the issue. Love is not an emotion or a feeling.
Love is a decision and it’s an action.
“My commandment,” Jesus said, “Is that you make the decision to love.”
So often we are up for obeying the ‘easy’ things God asks us to do but what happens when God gets personal? We come up with all the excuses in the world with number one being, “My situation is different”.
God gives a command for a purpose, to bring healing and restoration and also to allow the Holy Spirit to go to work in a surrendered heart. That’s where the power of God works miracles. In the darkest moments with obedient hearts.
Choose to love, choose to obey and the Lord will meet you in that place – guaranteed!
