Daily devotion – Queen Elizabeth 11

Pastor Keith   -

Luk 18:8 “I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

The passing of Queen Elizabeth 11 today is a sad day for many. It is an end to a world which both Helen and I remember growing up as children.

Friday morning school assemblies were a special time for every Australian child post war years. Each Friday the whole school would turn out and gather around the flagpole. The Australian flag would be raised as we sung “God Save the Queen” with gusto and a proud passion in our national heritage. Then the whole school, except for JW’s kids, would pray the Lord’s Prayer out aloud. At that time too, our WW1 and WW2 surviving family members were still living in our family units.

Sunday mornings during that period, the church bell would ring from the local Anglican Church, St Paul’s in Beaconsfield, summoning all to gather to worship. The Catholics, the Presbyterian, the Methodist, and all other denominations would fill at the same time.

There was no sport or work on Sundays!

Saturday morning’s during summer, most children attended the ‘pictures’, movie theatres to watch the latest Disney movie. The program was always the same, newsreel first, followed by a cartoon, then the playing of “God Save the Queen” with the picture reel displaying the young queen riding her horse in full military display.

All children stood and again sang along with the playing of the anthem. Then the movie would begin!

Our nation has changed dramatically since that time and has moved sadly away from all that we once felt was right and just. Now, schools no longer sing an anthem mentioning God. The Lord’s prayer cannot be said lest it ‘offend’!

Children stand for nothing or no one and Sundays are filled with everything but the worship of God.

Many of the old Churches are closed or have been knocked down and there are no bells tolling to call people to worship.

We are living in the Last Days, and we have a mission. Our mission is Mar 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Dad’s and mums, we have an enormous responsibility to not let the world make its ungodly imprint into our homes. This Sunday morning, rise early and let us gather to worship He who is the King of all kings, and Lord of all lords – Jesus Christ.

He is coming soon!
