Daily devotion – more to thank Him for.
Mat 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
When we read the great sermon that Jesus preached called the Sermon on the Mount, there are times when we are perhaps complexed by Jesus statements. They appear to be opposites in our way of thinking at times. Here Jesus says, “If you are poor in spirit…then you will be blessed (happy)!
How is that?
One of the hardest truths for some to accept is that there is absolutely nothing one can do to win your salvation. No matter how philanthropic you may be, how honest, how compassionate, each of these is never enough. The Almighty God is holy, and His standard is perfection!
If we think we are good enough, it simply proves our very own pride.
It is only when we see ourselves as God sees us – sinners, guilty before Him – will we realize our need of a Saviour.
C.H. Spurgeon said, “The first link between my soul and Jesus Christ is NOT my goodness but my badness, not my merit but my misery, not my riches, but my need.”
The amazing thing is this: In spite of our sin, God still loves us. He loves us so much that Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary for each of us. All we can do is believe and receive – believe Jesus Christ died for us and by faith receive Him into our lives.
No, you cannot win your salvation – Jesus Christ has won it for you!
Let us thank Him for that!
