Daily devotion – light!
Living in a dark violent world how can we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ when there seems to be so much against us?
Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may glorify your Father in Heaven…Matthew 5:16”
Jesus deemed His followers as a select company whose citizenship and identity belonged to a different world from the rest of humanity. Many of the religious leaders of His day were worldly and unspiritual. They would publicly parade their pompous religion purely to impress others while privately dominated by pride, ambition, and falsehood.
Jesus said His disciples were to make their light shine but it was not by sinking to the world’s low level. It seems much of the Church of today appears to be more like a club or theatre instead of a place of worship. It was only by abiding in Jesus Christ and living in His will, guided by the Holy Spirit, that they could rise above the fallen world.
Only in that way could they be salt and light to a decaying and darkened world!
Your influence on society requires your likeness to Jesus Christ. We cannot elevate others higher than we ourselves have gone. The first century Christians out-thought, out-lived, and out-loved their neighbours, and by their example of godly living, purity and compassion, attracted countless thousands to the Christian faith.
What do others see in your life that would attract them to believe in Jesus Christ?
