Daily devotion – Perfect government and perfect rule!
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah tells us in this marvellous verse that Jesus is both human – “a Child is born” and deity – “ a Son is given”. Isaiah then launches us into the kingdom age when Messiah Jesus will reign in righteousness and justice from David’s throne as prophesied.
God had promised David that his dynasty and throne would be established forever – 2Sa 7:16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
This was fulfilled literally in Jesus Christ, who will one day reign from Jerusalem!
Lastly, Isaiah tells us that Messiah’s name is “Wonderful”, that being there will be nothing dull about Christ’s reign! As “Counsellor,” Jesus has the wisdom to rule justly; and as the “Mighty God” , He has the power to execute His wise plans.
Apart from the majesty and power of this passage of Scripture, the part that excites me the most about it is that we will personally experience Christ’s reign with Him at this time!
What an amazing future awaits those who name the name of Jesus!
