Daily devotion – Jesus came to save us from our sins.

Pastor Keith   -

The Bible tells us that we each have a sin nature – Psa 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

The birth of the Lord Jesus was God sending His Son to take away our sin! Christmas is our celebration of the day, and the way God saved us from ourselves.

Matthew 1:20-21 says – “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

You and I today may not see the real connection between the name JESUS and the phrase – save His people from their sins., but Joseph surely did. Joseph was familiar with Hebrew and the English name Jesus traces its origin to the Hebrew word YESHUA.

YESHUA is a shortening of YEHOSHUAH, which means YAHWEH saves!

So, who was Jesus:

God saves
What did Jesus come to do? God saves!

God saves – Jesus was not just a godly man, or godlike, He was God!

God saves, not God has pity on, cares, listens, helps, assists, or applauds. No God saves.

Specifically, “He will save His people from their sins.”

Jesus came to save us from ourselves, from our very own sins – Jesus did not come save us from politics, enemies, challenges or trials.

He came to save us from our own sins.

Why would God do that you ask? Because God has a plan and a purpose for you in His kingdom. He is gathering people who will live in Heaven with Him for eternity.

All you need to do is accept God’s grace and bow your heart in repentance and ask Christ to be your Lord and Saviour. It’s that simple!

This Christmas, after sharing the Gospel with family or a friend, right there and then ask them if they would like to receive Christ as their Saviour – don’t delay or put it off, you will be surprised how many will say yes!
