Daily devotion – the greatest test
Rev 2:10 “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Could I have the courage to die for my faith in Jesus Christ? It’s a question that I often ponder as I read through the Scriptures. Hebrews 11, listed with those who gave their all for their love of God.
Hebrews 11: 35 Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. 36 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— 38 of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, 40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.
Right at this moment, people are facing that very decision in relation to their faith in God some where on our planet.
Soon we will venture in the wonderful study of the book of Daniel where we will see young Jewish teenagers facing death because of their faith in God.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were young teenage Jewish captives who took the ultimate stand.
When they did so it was their demeanour that was an example for me. They did not panic, they were calm and even joyful.
Let us be well aware that God is with His people at all times when we are in the fiery furnaces of life – our times of temptation, trouble and trial.
God will enable us, this we can count on!
