Daily devotion – discipline is love in action
Heb 12:6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
We find ourselves living in a society now that outlaws discipline. The most ‘brutal’ of chastisement that tops the scales is ‘time out’.
Firstly, let me say that I do not criticise such a method of discipline but it appears that parents hands are tied and that society in general says ‘no’ to any discipline.
In our walk with God, I know God does still utilise discipline. He has not changed, neither has His methods of raising His children. The danger of a ‘free for all’ society is that the reason that sits firmly at the base and behind all disciple is that it is in fact an act of love.
How can I say this, because the Bible tells me this. Pro 3:11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof,
Pro 12:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
Pro 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
Pro 29:17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.
We learn to walk righteously when disciplined and to cease from walking in foolishness.
As a follower of Christ, when God disciplines me, It is difficult yes, but when it occurs in my life, I know that God loves me so much that He will not just let me do my own thing and suffer for foolish living.
Hebrews 12:11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
The next verse in Hebrews goes on to say….12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. 13 Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.
We become stronger after we have been disciplined by the Lord!
Maybe your life is out of order at the moment, ask the Lord to correct you, to put on the right track again. His loving discipline only works for our good.
Seek the Lord today, ask for Him to minister to you, so that you can be stronger, to move you away from living foolishly…and enjoy His love.
