Daily devotion – when the past visits

Pastor Keith   -

Psa 25:7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O LORD.

Even though I have not worked for the Western Australia Police Force for some time now, lately I have received phone calls again in the early hours of the morning requesting I attend a tragic situation. I have to remind the officers calling that I no longer work for WAPOL but that does not help trying to return to sleep or having to had discuss the tragedy that has occurred.

Sometimes in our lives we are reminded of our previous life before we surrendered to Jesus Christ and our memories flood with things not so pleasant.

Our minds are an amazing computer that has a greater and crisper memory chip than even the ‘cloud’ today.

What are we to do when our past rings us again, when our minds flash the memory card once again?

Our help comes from only God at such times.

David lifted up his heart to God in prayer as he remembered regrets from his youth and he again sought the Lord.

David wanted to be reminded again of God’s grace, His forgiveness at such a time and God would not let him down.

This is why David wrote the verse following his cry to the Lord – according to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness sake, O Lord.

God has this beautiful way of comforting our hearts by ‘not remembering’ but He gives us His mercy instead!

This is the wonder of grace – God’s precious grace!
