Daily devotion – the shoes of an innkeeper

Pastor Keith   -

Job 36:26 “Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him; Nor can the number of His years be discovered.”

In January we will be in Jerusalem one can see the lights of Bethlehem in the distance. If you had been the innkeeper that first Christmas, how would you have responded to Joseph and his young pregnant wife Mary?

The innkeeper was not angry, nor was he opposed to this young couple seeking shelter. But his business mind was crowded, his hands were full, and he had many things on his mind at this very busy time of people seeking lodging.

Did he tell them he wished he could help out but his business priorities limited his ability to do so? Mary being pregnant was not his responsibility at this time of Roman taxing and census. Was the stable a last thought? Was it the best he could offer? He was a busy man, take it or leave it?

May people today wear the shoes of this innkeeper. They are not fiercely opposed to this man called the Christ. They are ‘spiritual’ but it’s a private matter!

Sometimes we are simply too preoccupied with other things to welcome Jesus Christ, the King of kings into our lives!

Let us make sure our lives do not reflect that of the innkeeper the night Jesus Christ came to meet Him.
