Daily devotion – school shooting
“The teenage boy who fired at least three shots at his former Two Rocks high school — with two bullets piercing a demountable classroom with students and staff inside — allegedly rang police immediately after his attack warning them he intended to kill people and himself.
The 15-year-old former student allegedly told police he had fired shots at the school before making the chilling threat. He also said there were guns in a car that he had walked away from.” – West Australian Newspaper, 26th May 2023.
Our world is stumbling like a blind man into darker and darker times due to our having turned our backs on the loving God who created us. Troubling events that were not seen not too many years ago are now commonplace in our daily lives.
School was once a place of learning and fun with other kids!
But our adversary, the Devil, has ramped up his evil and cruel manipulation in every sphere of our life and living. Confusion for our children is pandemic, and because our homes are no longer filled with Christ and the Word of God, they are crumbling under the onslaught of a tsunami of lies, anger, distrust and a complete lack of hope or care.
Where does the Church sit in all of this? What is it to do?
The modern Western Church has succumbed to the infiltration of sin, the world’s wisdom and ways. Now it is a place of prayerlessness, its powerless, self-indulgent and driven by programs and marketing, creating consumers, not disciples.
The Word of God is neglected both in the pews and the pulpits, with so few people even carrying a Bible to Church.
What does the future hold for the world and the Church?
The Bible tells us that at any moment, the Church of Jesus Christ, will be ‘raptured’, snatched out of this world – “1 Thessalonians 4: 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
The last book in the Bible, the book of Revelation, tells us that this world will endure seven years of tribulation with cataclysmic events and the most evil political dictatorship that this world will ever have known.
During this time, God will finally judge the world He has long been patient with. Men will hide from the face of Christ during this time.
Now more than ever, I must implore God’s people today to fully comprehend the time we are living and that our focus and attention must be entirely on serving Christ in these Last Days. To cease allowing their homes, marriages, and families to be sacrificed to the evil ways of this world’s philosophies and finally make a stand to commit all their ways to the Lord.
The scenario at Atlantis Beach Baptist College will not be the end of such events.
But it should certainly be the catalyst for many who name the name of Jesus to look up.
This Sunday, will the usual occur as we gather here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm? Will we attend, go home and fit back into living like the rest of the world? Or will we sense the urgency of the hour, begin prayer at home if it does not already happen, and open our Bibles and instruct our children to love God with all their hearts?
Will we individually be a person of prayer and the Word of God?
The clock is ticking. The world is on a course that the Bible has made us aware of.
Let us call on the name of the Lord and be about God’s business!
