Daily devotion – your eulogy written now
Matthew 11:11 “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Each of us will face death unless the rapture occurs in our time. Forty people living in Western Australia today will not see tomorrow. Cemeteries continue to fill. Families continue to grieve as sin makes its cruel mark on humanity as death comes eventually to all.
I remember sitting with my mother, who was 99 years of age, and speaking to her about what she would like to say at her funeral.
Eulogies form the central part of the funeral service as a family and sometimes friends speak of those who have died. I have listened to many, many eulogies over 46 years of funerals.
John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin, who had prepared the way for the Lord’s coming, was executed by Herod soon after Jesus’ comments in Matthew 11.
No mortal man ever received such commendation as Jesus, in these words, bestows on his imprisoned friend.
My question to you is, what will people say of you?
What legacy will your life leave, what imprint, what impact on those in your family and those who knew you?
From my times visiting with people who had days or hours to live, I am convinced that those given a period when their life would end had been given something special.
An opportunity to do and say what they had possibly neglected for most of their lives.
What would you like people to share about your life? I pray that they can confidently speak of your relationship with God being the most crucial matter of your life.
You served Jesus Christ and loved Him in such a way that this has impacted those closest to you—those who knew you well.
John certainly did. You now have the opportunity to leave a godly legacy, a lasting impact that will mean those you leave here on this planet will undoubtedly see you again!
Today is the day of salvation!
