Daily devotion – your gift to use.
Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
The Holy Spirit is at work in the Church as He gives gifts to specific people in the Church as we have just read in Ephesians.
The Holy Spirit gives EVERY Christian some gift the moment he or she receives Christ. No Christian can say, “I have no gift.” Every believer has at least one gift from the Holy Spirit. A weakness today in the Church is the failure to recognize, cultivate, and use fully the gifts God has given people in the pews.
Each week most times we encourage people to sign up to become part of the serving team here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour. The purpose behind this request is driven biblically by the fact that every believer has at least one gift to be used to glorify God and bring a blessing to His Church.
The Church today has adopted a style and philosophy of presenting a show and people coming to attend or watch the show. A bit like going to the theatre. This has produced a consumer like mentality and Church attendee only concept.
When in reality, when the Church gathers, each believer is bringing their gift to bring a blessing and they are not merely spectators but vital parts of the living body of Christ – the Church!
1 Corinthians 12: 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
One Body with Many Parts
12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.
This week, spend the time in prayer, studying, thinking about what gift you have from the Holy Spirit. Then on Sunday, grab a Connection card and write down that gift or gifts and let us see CCSH mobilized as a congregation to bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ and His work here before He returns.
