daily devotion – a trip to the future…
Eze 22:30 “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”
Three military recruiters were invited to address a high school assembly in the United States. The principal wanted 200 hundred young men to hear of the options available to them in the military.
The assembly was to be 45 minutes in duration and so each recruiter was to speak 15 minutes on behalf of their service. The Army recruiter was first up and he went over his speech by 20 minutes. The Navy recruiter, not to be outdone, stood and spoke also for another 20 minutes. This left the last recruiter from the Marines with about 2 minutes.
The Marine recruiter stood before the gathered assembly of young men and for the first 60 seconds stood in silence looking out over the young men.
They knew he was sizing them up and after what seemed an eternity the Marine recruiter said the following, “I doubt whether there are 2 or 3 of you in this room who could cut it as marines. I want to see those 3 young men as soon as this assembly is dismissed,” He then turned his heel and sat down.
Predictably, the Marine recruiter was mobbed by a herd of young men when he arrived in the cafeteria.
Like the Marines, God is on the lookout for a few good men. He actually wants you and with His help, you can make a difference in the war against the family of God and Christlike masculinity.
One man can make a difference. Sir Winston Churchill saved England!
Jonathan Edwards was one man who made a difference. He was born in 1703, he was perhaps was one of the most brilliant minds the United States ever produced.
He became a pastor, writer, and later president of Princeton. He and his wife had 11 children. From their male descendants the following occurred:
More than 300 became pastors, missionaries, or theological professors.
120, were professors at various universities.
110 became attorneys at law.
60 became prominent authors.
30 became judges.
3 served in the U.S. congress.
1 became vice-president of the United States.
Jonathan Edwards was just one man but he positively affected hundreds and even thousands of his descendants after his death.
Although Edwards was known for his daily regimen of 13 hours in the study and despite his busy preaching schedule, writing and teaching, he made it a habit to come home and spend 1 hour each day with his children.
Dads, just like in the movie “Back to the Future”, if you were able to get into the DeLorean and travel into the future, what would your legacy be like?
Would there be a chain linking generation to generation with godly men who in turn produced more godly men?
The destiny of those future generations is in your hands. The choices you make with your family will determine the quality of life in your family today, and will determine the quality of life in your family tree for generations to come.
God is looking for men still today!
