Daily devotion – Starting our day in order
Psalm 5: 1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my meditation. 2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.
We read this Psalm out Sunday morning for our corporate reading and it’s a most beautiful Psalm. Fitting for us to start a new week ahead of us whether for school, for work or at home.
King David was a faithful man of prayer, and he would each morning begin his day with the Lord as such. It showed a discipline in David’s life and also teaches us that our lives are to be orderly and systematic. Remembering also that God is a God of order as well.
The word translated ‘direct’ in verse 3 was used to describe the placing of the pieces of the animal sacrifices in order before the Lord on the alter. It also described the arranging of the wood on an altar, the placing of loaves of bread on the table in the tabernacle, and the setting of a meal before the guests.
David was not careless in his praying; he had everything arranged in order. You will remember Jesus to giving us a model as guide for our prayers as well which we call today the Lord’s prayer.
Lastly David writes, “I will look up” which conveys the idea of waiting expectantly for God to come and bless.
So today and this week in our daily morning devotions, our way of starting the day right with the Lord, we should come before our Father with our requests, our needs, seeking wisdom and giving Him praise so that our day, our week and our lives can be ordered by the Lord. So that chaos is not what we will have nor will we allow such living to guide our lives as we serve the Lord.
If you follow David’s example, starting each day like he did, God will guide and lead your every step and ensure that you are in His will at all times. This is a beautiful way to live. A life lived in faith giving each new day to our Lord to have His way in our lives!
