Daily devotion – The Holy God.
Isaiah 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
The words convenient or convenience mean – suitable or opportune, easy to use, nearby, an object that is useful.
Many people today live a convenient Christianity and worship a convenient God. But neither of these two represent the truth of how a true believer, worships the one and true Holy God nor represent the Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and earth. This is a great problem western Christianity faces today in our nation Australia and it should break our hearts that this is so.
Because God is holy the utmost reverence should be our only ever approach to Him. “God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all about Him” – Psalm 89:7
Then, “Exalt you the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool; He is holy” – Psalm 99:5.
Yes, “at His footstool.” In the lowest posture of humility, prostrate before Him. When Moses approached the burning bush, God said, “Put off your shoes from off your feet.” – Exodus 3:5
He is served “with fear” – Psalm 2:11. Of Israel His demand was, “I will be sanctified in them that come near Me, and before all the people I will be glorified.” – Leviticus 10:3.
What went wrong with us? How can we treat God with casualness? How can we reconcile that we meet with Him, serve Him, obey Him, only when it is convenient with us and our time?
How can we miss fellowshipping with Him whenever the saints gather in His name to worship Him? How is it that we can only speak (pray) to Him when we have an urgent need, yet we arrogantly still demand He answer us even though we have such a casual relationship with Him, at our convenience?
I am troubled today that we have not learnt from the tragedies of when people treated God in such a manner in the Bible, yet we still follow such bad examples.
Do we not realize what we are without Him, do we not recognize that apart from Him we can do nothing?
What went wrong with us? Have we forgotten that our very breath and life exists only because of Him? That our salvation is purely by His grace and mercy and nothing else. Yet this relationship with Him cost Him the death of His only begotten Son!
The one and true Holy God is not a convenience nor are we to ever place this precious relationship that we have been given as one that is casual and at our discretion.
Could it be that God is waiting for us to worship Him as the Holy God in awe and fear of who He is, that then we shall see God move in our Churches?
I think it is time we shunned, called out, dismissed, and will not accept any treating or dishonouring of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, as a matter of convenience. Rather that it is disrespectful, unacceptable and a blasphemous way to live.
The more our hearts are awed by His ineffable holiness, the more acceptable will be our approaches unto Him.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
