Daily devotion – In the beginning…God
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
A large number of people seek counselling these days. Many in the Church are included in that group. To deal with recurring issues on marriage, the sanctity of life (abortion – euthanasia), death, sin, the laws of God, judgment, grace, morality, and the hope of salvation – the Gospel.
Each one of these issues is dealt with in the early chapters of the book of Genesis – the book of beginnings.
What people consider ‘normal’ behaviour and living today are not actually the norm! It was not so in the beginning.
A major part of the problem as to why people find themselves and their lives in such a mess is that they do not know the book of Genesis.
Everything that God created in the beginning was good! God’s good did not include sin nor did it include death. Both those two things are not normal!
Over the next many Sundays and Wednesdays, we as a Church will be studying this most important book. We will read it and take its meaning literally. That is God literally created all things in 7 literal days for example.
Many young people are being deceived today as to their personal ‘identification’ creating mental health issues and tragic relationships that bring heartache confusion and pain.
In the book of Genesis God declares who we are and how we were made and for what purpose He created us. Probably three of the most critical questions we each ask of ourselves.
In addition, the modern western Church has ignored to its great peril the importance of the book of Genesis in understanding sin, the plan of redemption, the nation of Israel, and the identity of the Church.
God starts the book of Genesis simply stating He created the heavens and the earth. God does not make an elaborate argument for His existence, but the Bible does tell us how we can know God exists!
The book of Genesis gives us the vital information of the origin of ALL things, therefore the creation of all things.
Genesis is not an allegory – Adam and Eve, Noah, and Abraham, were all real humans who walked this earth and lived amongst us. The events in Genesis really happened.
I ask that you begin reading this great footing of the rest of the Bible and know this, that at the end of this great study, we will have a Rock solid foundation of God’s precious Word and His plan for each of our lives.
