From the Pastors Desk – The events in Israel on October 7, were like no previous situations. Now the world has crept even closer to an ever-increasing conflict of war – “The powder keg situation in the Middle East poses the biggest challenge yet for US President Joe Biden and his allies, including Australia: how to battle the rising tide of Iranian-backed attacks against western-aligned targets without plunging the entire region — and the wider world — into all-out war. The latest escalation — Friday’s US-led air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen after their 27th attack on shipping traffic in the Red Sea — follows months of heightened tensions in the area after Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel.” – West Australian Newspaper 13th January 2024. In addition, “China has issued an extraordinary warning to Australia, saying that any ‘miscalculations’ in Canberra’s ties with the next Taiwanese government would see the Australian people ‘pushed over the edge of an abyss’.” – Australian Newspaper 13th January 2024. Noah preached for 120 years warning about the coming flood whilst building the ark, but no one took any notice of his warning. For Christians living in these Last Days, we are fully aware of what’s next. But has all this made us draw closer to God? Or are we just as complacent as those in Noah’s day – In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. Matthew 24:38

Helen’s Heart Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 Often our actions can be directed by our thoughts of what ‘they’ think. This can put a heavy load on us. Rather, we should concern ourselves with what He thinks. As the Psalmist said, Psa 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me. There is joy in trying to please Him and in doing so we cannot help but share His joy with others. Joy is something that is multiplied when it is divided!

Grace Giving 2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. We encourage all of you who are part of our Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour Fellowship family to give without obligation but with a cheerful heart of worship. Your gifts allow God’s work to be done in our surrounding communities. Located on the eastern side of the sanctuary is a container for your grace giving – With the Commonwealth Bank

In reverence to the Lord and His Word – we ask for your cooperation to not be a distraction to others by leaving your seat once the service has started, the exception being parents taking children to junior worship and Sunday school classes. Please wait until the close of worship before leaving as people can be distracted while reflecting on God’s message to them.
