Daily devotion – counsellors

Pastor Keith   -

Pro 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Pro 15:22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Decision making never goes away and even as one ages there are still major decisions one has to make to ensure you are being a wise steward of all that God has provided you.

Whatever field of expertise you are needing to make a decision in, it is always wise to seek those who are best qualified in such areas for advice. The pain of a quick or unwise decision lasts far longer usually than the matter object in discussion.

The key is to find counsel that is wise. We live in a world filled with ‘experts’ who are quick to give you their advice on what you should do. The Word of God gives us the wisest information on all matters of life, of marriage, of parenting etc. Yet many believers today seem to ignore God’s Word and seek counsel from the world. That’s a poor decision before you have even made the first step.

There are many things that the Bible does not address specifically so what then? Look to godly men and women who have a proven track record in the field or area of concern. The way they have lived before God! The Church is full of many gifted and talented people who have walked with God and can assist in those most difficult matters.

Does that mean your mechanic or builder must be a Christian? Not necessarily, you need the best mechanic and the best builder. But you do need to also listen to people when seeking their advice. There are times when warning signs are emanating from someone even though they seem to be saying the right things, that the Holy Spirit is warning you to avoid.

Multiple counsellors should give you the same good advice one after the other if what they are saying is correct. But remember to always seek the greatest Counsellor of all – He is our Lord and Saviour, the One that the prophet Isaiah spoke of when he said – Isa 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Let God always have the final say on the matter and you will be a person of wisdom who makes right decisions when needed!
