Daily devotion – when our little ones suffer
Isa 53:5
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
One of the hardest things to endure for a parent or a grandparent is to watch on when their child or grandchild is sick. You see the little one in distress, hear their laboured breathing or their chest rattling.
At that moment, you wish you could transfer their sickness to yourself and exchange your health with them.
When Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus before He called him back from the dead, it was a sign of mourning and anguish. Jesus saw and felt the pain of sin. His friend Lazarus had been dead for four days. Mary and Martha, Lazarus sisters were heartbroken and in great pain with their brother’s death.
Our Lord’s weeping revealed the humanity of our Saviour. Jesus had entered into all our experiences and knows how we feel.
His tears showed His passionate sympathy!
But the wonder of our Saviour is that He did what we can’t do when our children are suffering. He took our sin, our shame, our guilt upon Himself and He made us whole – righteous, without spot or blemish!
When your child or grandchild is ill, we can now call on our Lord to help us, to ask for healing for our little ones, to bring them before our great Physician. To place them by prayer into His hands.
Heb 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
