Daily devotion – wait!

Patience in the Lord’s Timing

The outstanding characteristics of the great New England preacher, Phillips Brooks, were his poise and his ability to remain calm. However, his intimate friends knew that at times he suffered moments of frustration and irritability. One day, a friend saw him pacing the floor like a caged lion.

“What is the trouble, Dr. Brooks?” asked the friend.

“The trouble is that I’m in a hurry, but God isn’t!” he replied.

Have you ever been in a hurry with the things of the Lord? This was one of my greatest hurdles early in my Christian walk.

This week, if you have a decision to make or you are growing impatient with the prayers that you have laid out to God with no response as yet, take a step back and wait!

Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Psalm 37:34 – “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.”

Proverbs 20:22 – “Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.”

Eventually, after making far too many rash and poor decisions, I learned to wait patiently on God. This is a far more enjoyable way to live!

Waiting on the Lord also declares my trust in God to guide me and lead me to the right path in His time.

May you enjoy this week, waiting and resting on God, as He leads you to still waters and to rest in His green pastures!
