Daily devotion – a house in order.
Genesis 40: 16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, “I also was in my dream, and there were three white baskets on my head. 17 In the uppermost basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.”
18 So Joseph answered and said, “This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days. 19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you.”
We covered this passage Sunday morning. Remember Joseph interprets the dreams of Pharaohs cupbearer and his chief baker as well. The cupbearer would be set free in three days, but the baker would be executed! Two vastly different outcomes from each one’s dreams.
Why would Joseph be given the task of sharing such daunting news to the chief baker?
Could it also be that the chief baker was given an opportunity by the Lord through Joseph to get his heart right before God before his last moments on earth? We are not told but it certainly would have made him think about what lies beyond death for him, what awaited him!
There was a king of Judah by the name of Hezekiah that was given the warning directly by God of his impending death via the words of the prophet Isaiah.
2Ki 20:1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.’ ”
Each and every one of us will face death unless we are taken in the Rapture of the Church prior as taught by the Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4.
It’s important to always have ‘our house in order’, to be ready to meet the Lord. What does that mean?
For us today it means ensuring that we are walking with God, that we have no sin separating us from God. Being confident that at any time the Lord could call us home, that we would be ready to meet Him face to face.
Is your house in order today? Are you right before God? To be right before God means you have asked God to forgive you of your sins, that you have repented of them before Him and received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Many people when told of a terminal illness go about the process of settling accounts, meeting with family and friends, getting their last will and testament right, seeking repair of broken relationships if they have time and are able to achieve such things.
But many people leave this world not ready to meet their Creator. Having lived their lives completely ignoring Him.
Will you take the time to set your house in order today. It’s as simple as bending your knee and your heart to He who made you and acknowledging what His Son Jesus Christ did for you on the Cross of Calvary?
